Notary-Officiated Weddings Could Be Coming To Nevada

A suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union against the state of Nevada, could allow notary-officiated weddings. The civil rights organization alleges the current law of the state of Nevada violates the U.S. Constitution as it requires non-governmental marriage officiants to have religious ties (NRS 122.006).

Currently, only Florida, Maine, and South Carolina allow notaries to officiate weddings.

Court Clerk's Office to Begin New Hours of Operation

Effective May 9th, the Eighth Judicial District Court Clerk's office will change it's hours of operation to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

According to a media release by the Clark County Regional Justice Center, "the court was asked by Clark County officials to reduce court-wide personnel costs due to revenue shortfalls facing the county. Court operations have been reviewed to determine the best way to trim personnel costs."

“Maintaining an appropriate service level is a high priority for our court,” said Chief Judge Jennifer P. Togliatti. “After careful evaluation, this appears to be the most effective way to reduce personnel costs from already depleted staffing levels in the Clerk’s Office. I ask for the patience and understanding of those who use our services during these difficult economic times.”
